To quote an article published in the Pictorial Guide to Weymouth in 1880:-

Lulworth Cove is one of the most romantic of spots, its sources of attraction being extremely varied. No more picturesque place is to be found on the English Coast. On entering by yacht or steamer, by a comparatively narrow inlet from the Channel, the visitor finds himself in a lovely bay surrounded by steep cliffs. On a summer day the placid water is charming beyond expression, and everything around affords facilities for the enjoyment of health giving activity, or of equally wholesome rest. It is the paradise of those who are glad to escape the hurry and strain of busy towns, and who welcome for a time absolute relaxation.

John Everett Millais and his father William Henry would have visited Lulworth Cove in the 1800s. Some 130/150 years later Lulworth Cove is much the same and continues to provide a haven from the stresses of city life. Although the steam ships have disappeared, the paddle ship, the Waverley, still plies the coastline, and yachts still glide in and out of the cove.
